A close-up portrait study of a young girl, painted in oils as an exploration of the techniques and approach of the great French academic painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

I was particularly interested in studying Bouguereau’s delicate handling of flesh tones, subtle transitions between light and shadow, and his ability to create a soft, luminous quality in the skin. The close composition places emphasis on the young girl’s thoughtful expression and the quiet intimacy of the portrait.

This painting formed part of my ongoing study of traditional European painting methods and my exploration of the refined techniques used by the Old Masters and academic painters.
