Hand Holding Fruit – Bouguereau Study

An oil painting study based on a work by William-Adolphe Bouguereau, focusing on his treatment of the hand, fruit and surrounding drapery.

This study provided an opportunity to explore Bouguereau’s painting techniques, particularly his careful observation of anatomy, subtle modelling, delicate flesh tones and the gradual transitions of light and shadow that create a convincing sense of form.

As with my other Bouguereau studies, the painting was undertaken to better understand and practise the methodology of this highly accomplished French academic painter.
