Lark Quarry, near Opalton in outback Queensland, is a place where the landscape tells stories millions of years old. Painted from my own photograph, this work captures the vivid contrast of the deep red earth, intense cobalt sky and clusters of hardy spinifex scattered across the landscape.

The spinifex may be notoriously sharp and unforgiving, but against this ancient country it becomes part of the beauty of the place. Nearby Lark Quarry is home to remarkable dinosaur fossil discoveries and the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, adding another layer of fascination to an already extraordinary landscape.
