Inspired by the distinctive style of Tamara de Lempicka, this painting explores the glamour and sophistication of the 1930s through a dramatic female figure in a white dress.

I particularly love Lempicka’s use of harsh shadows and sudden transitions between light and dark. These strong contrasts give the figure a sculptural quality and create a striking, almost theatrical pose.

This was an opportunity to explore a very different style from my usual work, while drawing on the bold geometry, glamour and dramatic lighting that make Art Deco painting so distinctive.
